Mr. Journeay, Still Teaching at LBJ, Wins BIG!!

The annual H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards are significant. They aren't just a gesture to noteworthy teachers across Texas, but, with cash awards to them and their schools, a serious statement of respect for their work in the classroom.

In Austin there were two major winners:

• Linda Webb, principal of Pillow Elementary School in North Austin. Webb won $10,000 for herself and $25,000 for her school.

• David Journeay, a science teacher at LBJ High School in Northeast Austin, won a lifetime teaching award that comes with a check for $25,000 and a matching grant for his school.

Webb and Journeay were among the six teachers, two principals and two school districts that were statewide winners of the H-E-B awards, chosen from a group of more than 2,000 nominees. Collectively, they won $380,000, bringing the grocery chain's total contributions to the awards to $2.5 million since they were started in 2002.
